Tip of the Month: When I program a single ECU, sometimes I notice that other ECU’s are also programmed, Why is this?
Certain ECU’s and their software must be matched (compatible) with other ECU’s. So it can be expected to have multiple ECU’s programmed when only one ECU has been selected. This is due to internal systems dependencies. An example is if the ECM software is updated, it may be required to update the ACM for proper functionality, drivability and OBD compliance. Note that this is only for OBD2013 and newer vehicles.
Windows Updates – All PC’s that are running Tech Tool should have the latest Windows updates installed. There are several Windows Updates that are required to allow Tech Tool to work correctly.
Client Update – Make sure that you have the latest updates, by using the Client Update Agent found in the bottom right of the screen. These updates contain improvements related to the Tech Tool application and Vehicle data.
Update Product Information – found under the Tech Tool menu in the top left of screen. The update product information is designed to run automatically. If you are having connection issues with a newer vehicle, or after software update you may need to manually run the UPI function. On some occasions you may be requested to run the UPI after changes/updates are made to the database.
ECU Emissions Programming
The ECU programming for OBD2013 and newer emissions vehicles will include programming for the Engine ECM, Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM), Transmission ECU (TECU) and Vehicle ECU. We are required to provide access to program certain emissions related ECU’s under the Service Information Requirement law, step 2013. Both the EPA and CARB require this. The following EPA software reprogramming requirement is described on page 8418 EPA OBD & SIR: 40 CFR Part 86.010-38.
The 2.5.65 update “What’s New” help file is not accurate for the North America vehicles. Please disregard. The correct information can be found in the March FAQ document.
Premium Tech Tool 2.03 is no longer supported and can only be used in offline mode. Please update your Premium Tech Tool computers to avoid interruption.
Client update 2.04.87 is required when using Premium Tech Tool version 2.04. This required update is due to the expiration of the embedded licensed version of Java. Click here for details on “How to Update PTT using the Client Update Utility”

When logging into Premium Tech Tool, if you receive a “Login Failure” message, please utilize Chat.
Supported Chat Login Failure Error Messages
“Your user ID is unknown or you have entered the wrong password. Please try again.”
“Your user account is locked. Please contact local support for assistance.”
Note Password Requirements:
- The preferred password cannot be among the last 7 used for your account.
- A Password requires that you have at least 8 characters.
- The Premium Tech Tool password expires every 180 days.

Premium Tech Tool 2.04.32 DVD or newer is now compliant with Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise . Upgrading an operating system from Windows 7 or 8 / 8.1 to Windows 10 requires an uninstall and reinstall of PTT.
